Prisons That Are Voted as the Most Haunted Places in the U.S

Going to jail is obviously an unpleasant experience. However, by adding ghosts and goons, an unpleasant situation can turn into a complete nightmare. With that being said, here is a look at the 9 most haunted prisons in the U.S. 

Alcatraz Prison 
Tourists have often reported hearing footsteps and screams coming from various parts of the prison. A psychic once visited the prison and allegedly made contact with a murdered inmate.

Saint Augustine Jail 
Local historians say a number of people who worked on the lighthouse died while working. There have also been reports of people witnessing ghosts roaming the property.

Fort Pulaski 
This fort was used to hold Civil War prisoners. Many of the prisoners died from a lack of adequate water and food. There are strong rumors that these prisoners' spirits still roam the grounds.

Crown Point Jail 
While this jail closed in 1970, sources maintain that some supernatural prisoners still roam the grounds. Visitors report hearing footsteps and voices.

Whitley Jail 
In the late 1800’s, an inmate was sentenced to execution by hanging, but the hanging did not go as planned. Some observers say that his death was slow and painful. It is believed that the inmate lives on inside the jail.

Allegan Jail 
A small ghost allegedly moves about the dining room, and a mannequin in the master bedroom changes its own clothes. Mysterious footsteps are also heard inside the jail.

Ohio State Reformatory 
Visitors say that they have felt numerous cold spots throughout the jail, and they also report being hit by invisible forces inside the jail.

Burlington Prison 
Workers at the prison have reported mysteriously losing their tools. They also say that they hear random footsteps and screams.
